Martti Rousi (b. 1960) begun his studies in 1968 at the Turku Music Conservatory.
In 1979 he moved to Helsinki to continue his studies with professor A. Noras at the
Sibelius Academy and completed his studies in 1983 with a brilliant diploma. 1985-86 he
studied with professor J. Starker at the Indiana University in Bloomington. As a great
start to his international career Martti Rousi won the second prize at the Cajkowskij Competition
in Moscow in 1986. Since that he has been invited to play with the most prestigious orchestras
in Scandinavia, Europe, in the USA and Japan. He has given recitals and performed as a chamber
musician at several festivals. He has made various recordings for Finnish Ondine label. He is
a professor at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and since 1992 he is the artistic director of
Turku Music Festival. He plays a Januarius Gagliano made in 1754.
